Do i miss Sydney?

It is a difficult question and do think that i will present a different answer just before going back home. However, i think that living in Amsterdam has become a character-building experience such as living independently, taking responsibilities and illustrating a clearer picture of my life after the conclusion of living in Amsterdam.

Whether i am still nostalgic about Sydney’s lifestyle can only be briefly explained. I do miss the weather such as the moderate climate and plentiful sunshine. Although over the last few months Sydney didn’t have the usual humid sun-stroke climate like in typical summer season. Since i have been independent for several years, i don’t feel the necessity of being with family under the same roof. As a young adult, it is of a life-dreamt mission to be self-reliant and have stability in what i do instead of having my strings pulled like puppet dolls.

I find it rewarding to be away from the usual lifestyle i am use to. Being stuck in traffic or trying to fend off rush hour congestion to and from uni campus…then taking lone strides in a very wide and less-densed city such as Sydney. Sydney is in itself quite a financially conservative city where everything is about trend and commence and less on abstract ideas and expressionist cultures such as philosophy, design and movement.

I live off in being efficient. I live off being living in predictable atmosphere where every tasks doesn’t involve rolling dices like a Russian Roulette.

Running Dinner

Last night the whole block full of international students hosted a running dinner. Students volunteer to cook for up to 6 students whether it is just starter or main meal or dessert. Cost of running the meals would be compensated by the RA personnel. The aim was to get to know the neighbours and obviously taste the dinner from three different cooks.

There were quite a diverse crowd from different country of origin; Portugal, Spain, Germany, Canada, Greece, Italy, Korean, Singapore and so on. Just mingled on what is generally like in Holland and naturally comparing to their home.

At the end of the meals we were meant to meet up at Aan T’IJ but it was used for private function. So some of us who knew the change of plan ended at Maartan’s place for a few chat and drinks as a complement. Some biked to Leidseplein for a live rock band.

Starter: Avocado & Salmon
Main Meal: Avocado & Potatoes with lemon juice dressing + Pork.
Dessert: Cheese cake
