There is a main fitness centre operated by University of Amsterdam at the perimeter of the Amsterdam city. It has many fields for soccer and tennis. Indoor it has many rooms full of fitness equipment. A friend said that De Boelelaan Centre is much bigger than the one i usually go to near the Dam Square.
So this afternoon i travelled there with metro 51 line and got off at Amsterdam Rai station. Then walked Westward parellel to the highway/metro line.
While training, it brought me back memories. Instead of Life Fitness equipment usually the newer Sydney’s Fitness First centres are cluttered with, it was white functional technogym equipment. It brought me back memories when i used to train in Chatswood Space gym back 4 years ago and it was all white without being tacky and retro-fitted with plastic covers. Then the speakers started to pump up trance music in the beginning then house. It was Tiesto’s ‘In Search of Sunrise’ CD as a starter. Then tuned in the classic ‘Traffic’ track. Ahh… so many good memories with that track.
It was Sunday and so not many people were using it. I didn’t have to wait to use the equipment which was pretty good. It was a very functional and ‘gritty’ gym which is good in some ways. I find that in this kind of environment i focus more to myself and my training than just procrastinate and start scanning the whole gym to see what’s up.
The whole gym quarter is not as big as thought it would. Certainly not big as Parramatta Fitness First nor the Chatswood Space (now F.F. Platinum). But it’s functional nonetheless.
So after my training i walked outside to Amsterdam Zuid, which is a business precinct just South of Amsterdam centrum. It if glitzing with new polygonal shaped buildings with some in double skinned facade exteriors. There were many squares surrounded by take-away stores and bike storage facilities.
